Why Train at ACCORD?

ACCORD is an international civil-society organisation working throughout Africa to bring appropriate African solutions to the challenges posed by conflict on our continent. Our approach to conflict resolution has been recognised by the United Nations as a suitable model for Africa. We have been called on to share our knowledge and experience from as far afield as East Timor, Cypress and Brazil. ACCORD was founded in 1992.

In the last twelve years, ACCORD has trained more than 12,000 people in conflict resolution skills. We have been involved in interventions that have contributed to positive shifts in conflicts in our own backyard in KwaZulu-Natal, and as far afield as Somalia, the DRC, Nigeria and most recently, Burundi.

We work in urban and rural areas, in classrooms and boardrooms, with decision-makers of countries and leaders of communities. We rigorously attempt to maintain neutrality in any conflict, and have worked with people across political divides, and in collaboration with United Nation Agencies such as UNIFEM, UNDP and on behalf on the OAU/AU.

What is Our Methodology?

ACCORD's training methodology is interactive, participatory and highly contextual. Expect exercises, group work, plenary sessions, video case studies, role-plays, simulations and dialogues. You will leave with an excellent course manual that you can refer back to at any time.

Course Requirements

The only requirement for acceptance onto the Introduction to Conflict Management is fluency in English. Usually you will be required to complete the introductory course to attend the advanced course and the mediation and negotiation courses, but this depends on your experience and prior training.

How Can I Get Trained?

Unfortunately ACCORD is no longer offering public courses. However, we are able to offer in-house training for your organisation, business or government department, to develop capacity and enhance skills. For further information, please contact the Training Manager at ACCORD.
