In recognition of South Africa’s role as co-facilitator in the review of the United Nations Peacebuilding Commission (PBC), the South African Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) and ACCORD will be jointly hosting an Africa-wide Dialogue to review the progress of the PBC since its establishment in 2005.

The Dialogue Seminar in Durban from 29-30 April 2010 will focus on seven countries namely, Burundi, Sierra Leone, DRC, CAR, Guinea Bissau, Sudan and Liberia.

The Security Council has appointed Ambassadors Claude Heller of Mexico, Baso Sanqu of South Africa, and Anne Anderson of Ireland to facilitate the PBC review process, which is due to be completed in December this year.
“The Dialogue will bring together key stakeholders from across the Continent to assess the relevance and impact of the PBC for the continent by defining the current challenges, sharing experiences and proposing practical, action-oriented recommendations to enhance its role towards building sustainable peace” says Jeremy Taylor, Senior Programme Officer in the Interventions Department at ACCORD.
