ACCORD associate appointed Director of Political Affairs for United Nations Secretary General

ACCORD Associate, Nicholas (Fink) Haysom was appointed Director of Political Affairs for United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on 17 May 2007. ACCORD has worked with Fink over many years, including having him serve as an advisor to our Constitutionalism Programme, and more recently in March 2006 when a delegation of senior Iraqi Parliamentarians visited ACCORD House as part of a study tour of South Africa.

In 1996 ACCORD was recognized by the United Nations as a model for peace, and in 2005 Vasu Gounden was the first member of an African NGO to address the United Nations Security Council. ACCORD’s Peace and Security Unit has also worked extensively with the UN on training civilian peacekeepers and police. This has included the training of female military, police, and civilian personnel who were serving or intending to serve in African Peace Support Operations, which took place in December 2006.
