ACCORD hosts peacebuilding training in collaboration with the Liberia Peacebuilding Office in Monrovia

Peacebuilding training

Training sessions aim to improve the peacebuilding skills of Liberian stakeholders.

ACCORD’s African Peacebuilding Coordination Programme (APCP), in collaboration with the Peacebuilding Office of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Republic of Liberia, hosted a Peacebuilding training from 6-10 July 2009 at the Mamba Point Hotel in Monrovia, Liberia.

The training was aimed at enhancing the skill-set of various actors involved in the peacebuilding process, as well as supporting efforts made by the Peacebuilding Office in Liberia to promote coherence and coordination among these various actors. The training brought together 35 peacebuilding actors in Liberia representing the government of Liberia, the UN system, NGOs and CSOs.

Pertinent issues to the Liberian peacebuilding process, such as mediation, reconciliation, reintegration, security, state-building, recovery, good governance and the rule of law, and the Poverty Reduction Strategy (PRS) were major topics addressed through the various training sessions in the forms of presentations, group work and discussions. Participants shared their experiences and the training enhanced their understanding of peacebuilding, which will further harmonise their peacebuilding efforts in Liberia. Lessons learned and best practices were shared by the external resource persons and proved to be very valuable to the participants in their quest for sustainable peace and development in Liberia.

The training is expected to foster efforts made by the newly established Peacebuilding Office in Liberia, which operates under the Ministry of Internal Affairs, to enhance mutual cooperation and coordination among actors and stakeholders to the Liberian peacebuilding process.
