Global Peace introduced at African Union during High Level Workshop on Silencing the Guns

Global Peace is an initiative of ACCORD and focuses on bridging the gap between peace and development.

Dr Vasu Gounden, ACCORD’s Founder and Executive Director, during a presentation on the Peace and Security Trends in Africa at the African Union High Level Workshop on Silencing the Guns in Africa by 2020 introduced Global Peace to the participants of the workshop. Dr Gounden, in introducing Global Peace, touched on the ambitions and activities of Global Peace. He further highlighted how Global Peace intends to bridge peace and development around the world and its intergenerational dialogues initiative. The High Level Workshop was held at the AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 11 to 12 October 2018.

On 27 July 2018 H.E. President Cyril Ramaphosa, together with Mrs Graça Machel, officially unveiled the logo of Global Peace at the lunch that President Ramaphosa hosted for the twenty two Heads of State and Government and their delegations attending the BRICS Outreach Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa.

On 24 September 2018 Mrs Graça Machel, at the Nelson Mandela Peace Summit in front of the United Nations General Assembly introduced Global Peace to the United Nations by highlighting the experience of ACCORD and its work in Africa over the past twenty-five years, and that the lessons gained from ACCORD have been used to establish Global Peace.
