Senior Programme Officer: Peacemaking Unit
John Ahere is a Senior Programme Officer in the Peacemaking Unit at ACCORD. He is responsible for the development of detailed implementation plans for programmes in the Peacemaking Unit and the execution of the strategic direction of the Unit. He is also responsible for: compiling written reports on activities and written submissions for internal and external (donor) reports; following the field and academic debates linked to core activities of the Unit; establishing networks for the Unit with partners nationally, regionally and continentally and the administrative management of the Unit on a day-to-day basis.
John holds an MA in International Studies and a BA (Hons) in Political Science and Sociology both obtained from the University of Nairobi in Kenya in 2011 and 2005 respectively. His MA thesis examined the probable reasons why Somaliland had as at 2010, failed to obtain international recognition in spite of declaring itself a state. He also obtained in 2009, a Postgraduate Diploma in Project Management from the Kenya Institute of Management. For more than 8 years, John has overseen the management of cross-border peace building and conflict transformation projects in Sudan, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Somalia, Uganda and Kenya.
