Building a learning community.
The Durban Innovative Leadership Programme (DILP) launched its annual year-long programme on from 21-22 February 2020, at the Durban University of Technology (DUT), ML Sultan Campus. This session introduced the students to the aims and objectives of the programme, roles, responsibilities, and expectations as well as the basic concept of leadership. The session also provided a space for participants to reflect on their own leadership journey, to get to know each other, and establish the project teams.
DILP is jointly hosted by DUT and the African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (ACCORD), and is based at the International Centre of Nonviolence (ICON), which is at DUT. DILP is attended by students from various institutions of higher learning in the Durban, KwaZulu-Natal area. It is comprised of three inter-related aspects – theory of leadership with attendant readings, interactive sessions, and community projects. The programme aims to promote, encourage and facilitate leadership development for a secure, just, equitable, humane and democratic world. The programme does this by creating spaces and opportunities for building the capacities of young leaders, instilling knowledge, building skills and attitudes of value-based leadership that prioritises ethics, integrity and servant leadership.
ACCORD was represented by Miss Sibusisiwe Nkosi, in her capacity as the ACCORD focal point for the DILP and the Focal Person for the ACCORD Youth, Peace and Security Cluster (YPS).
