Following the success of the Scenario Development Workshop for the SADC Standby Force Command Post Exercise, which took place from 12th – 16th February 2018, and in efforts to continuously prepare for the Command Post Exercise (CPX) planned for 16th October 2018, SADC RPTC successfully organised and conducted an Integrated Exercise Planning Course (IEPC) that drew participants from fourteen (14) of the sixteen (16) SADC Member States. The two-week course took place from 26th February to 09th March 2018, in Harare, Zimbabwe.
The course aimed at enhancing participant’s understanding of the Exercise planning techniques by sharing essential skills including the mastering of appropriate attitudes that are required for effective Exercise planning and coordination of integrated multidimensional Peace Support Operations (PSO) Exercises. The course aimed at broadening the PSO Exercise planning capacities of the SADC Standby Force at Regional and Member State levels. All this preparatory work to enhance planning capacities will ensure effective and efficient response when SADC goes on standby on 01 January 2019.
ACCORD/TfP Programme is an initiative funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and ACCORD/TfP’s involvement in these initiatives is in response to the AU objective of working with partners to enhance the skills and capacities of the African Standby Force to respond to threats to peace and security on the African continent.
