Women, Peace and Security Intern

ACCORD is currently seeking applicants for the position of a Women, Peace and Security intern within its Programmes Department. This is an initial contract for a period of 3 months, with the possibility of an extension to 6 months.

Duties and responsibilities

The intern will work with the Programmes Department, Women’s Peace and Security (WPS) cluster supporting key programme functions including enhancing the effective participation of women in conflict prevention and peacebuilding, and strengthening the role of women in peace and security.

Under the overall supervision of the Programme Manager, the intern’s tasks will include, but will not be limited to:

  1. Identify, analyse and monitor political developments and trends in relations to women, peace and security;
  2. Assisting with relevant research on WPS Projects;
  3. Providing technical, logistical and coordination support to the WPS activities to strengthen programme intervention, including organizing relevant events, meetings, and trainings;
  4. Assisting with the preparation of reports and follow-up on implementing the UNSCR 1325 and tracking of National Action Plans relevant to targeted countries;
  5. Developing and drafting key documents, such as concept notes, presentations, policy briefs, etc.;
  6. Participating and contributing to relevant meetings related to programme thematic areas; and
  7. Performing other tasks as assigned by the Supervisor.

The intern will also have opportunities to work with other institutional initiatives, where possible.

Skills and experience

  • Knowledgeable in the field of Women, Peace and Security;
  • Experienced work with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint Presentation and Excel;
  • Good writing skills and be proficient in English. French will be an added advantage;
  • Team-oriented, meticulous, and enthusiastic.

Education

University studies in one of the following disciplines: Political Science, Gender studies, International Relations, and/or any relevant field directly related to gender and international peace, security and governance.

Remuneration

Interns who are not in receipt of financial support from sources such as universities or other institutions will receive a stipend from ACCORD to partially subsidize their basic living costs for the duration of the internship.
