About ACCORD
The African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (ACCORD) is a South African-based civil society organisation working across Africa to promote constructive conflict resolution. ACCORD advances dialogue, mediation, and institutional development as alternatives to violence and protracted conflict.
Position Overview
ACCORD is seeking to appoint a Programme Officer to support the implementation of a project on Sustainable Coalitions at Local Government Level in South Africa.
The Programme Officer will play a key role in coordinating project activities, providing administrative and logistical support, and assisting with the delivery of research outputs.
The Programme Officer will report directly to the Researcher and work closely with the Research Unit.
Contract Duration: Fixed-term (12 months)
Key Responsibilities
The incumbent will be responsible for, but not limited to:
- Supporting the coordination and implementation of project activities, including workshops, seminars, and training sessions
- Providing logistical and administrative support (scheduling, travel arrangements, procurement processes, venue coordination)
- Assisting with stakeholder engagement and communications related to project activities
- Supporting the preparation and formatting of reports, presentations, and project documents
- Maintaining accurate project records, databases, and documentation
- Assisting with monitoring project progress and tracking deliverables
- Supporting follow-up actions arising from meetings and events
- Providing general programme support to the Researcher and Research Unit
- Performing other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Minimum Requirements
Education
A postgraduate qualification in Political Science, International Relations, or a related field relevant to governance, peace, and security
Skills and Experience
- Demonstrated interest in governance, coalition politics, or local government
- Strong organisational, administrative, and coordination skills
- Good communication and writing skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Experience supporting projects, events, or programmes will be an advantage
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a team
- Proficiency in English; knowledge of an additional South African official language is an advantage
