The African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (ACCORD) is a South African-based civil society organisation specialising in conflict management, analysis and prevention. ACCORD intervenes in conflicts through mediation, negotiation, training, and research and conflict analysis. ACCORD’s Knowledge Production Department’s strategic objective is to establish ACCORD as a positive and constructive learning organisation that enhances policy, research and practice in the field of conflict management. The Department focuses on four key topical areas related to ACCORD’s work and to conflict management in Africa:
- The theory and practice of conflict resolution
- The practice of implementing peace agreements
- New perspectives development and post-conflict transitional issues in Africa
- Lessons of co-existence in South Africa
Senior Researcher Ref 1/2008/KPD
Key Responsibilities: The Senior Researcher will design implement and manage comprehensive policy research programmes on African peace and security and conflict resolution issues. She/he will contribute to an ACCORD-wide system for knowledge production and research through intellectual and project management leadership. The Senior Researcher will also help to strengthen ACCORD’s publications and generate innovative policy relevant approaches in alignment with evolving ACCORD practices.
Requirements: The Senior Researcher must be in possession of an advanced (MA) graduate degree in political science, international relations or a relevant social science field, with a focus on conflict resolution. She/he will have the ability to contribute to research and knowledge production within a complex and diverse environment and possess 1) an understanding of the African and international field of conflict resolution; 2) a track record in field research and academic research; and 3) a record of multiple publications (book chapters, journal articles). Candidates with a PhD qualification, experience in policy research and strong project management, administrative and organisational skills will have an advantage. Fluency in French and/or Portuguese is also an advantage.
