ACCORD through the Training for Peace Programme (TfP), participated in the Trainer of Trainers course on Competency-Based Interviewing. The course was planned and organised by the African Union (AU) in close collaboration with United Nations Office to the African Union (UNOAU) and with contribution from Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and hosted by the Eastern African Standby Force (EASF).

The main purpose of the course was to further strengthen the skills of the Roster Focal Point Officers (FPOs) working on the recruitment of experts to enter the AU African Standby Capacity (ASC) roster and database, and to ensure that the FPOs’ select experts with the appropriate skills and knowledge for each respective field in Peace Support Operations (PSOs). The course further aimed at equipping the Officers and Interview panel members with skills to determine whether the candidates had been employed and have worked in their specialised areas previously. The course also aimed at determining and how aspiring applicants managed work related problems, tasks and challenges within the working peace and security environment.

The course was attended by the Eastern African Standby Force (EASF) Roster Focal Officers and partners who form part on the interviewing panel in their respective organisations.

ACCORD’s involvement in this initiative is in line with its strategic goal of supporting efforts at strengthening the AUC and Regional Economic Communities/Regional Mechanisms (RECs/RMs) capacity and capability to plan, manage and implement PSOs on the continent through the enhancement of the capacities of the African Stand by Force. As a part of the initiative to continue building the capacity of staffs to be able to deliver support in meeting the organisational objectives, ACCORD/TfP provides support to its partners in PSOs.

The Training for Peace Programme at ACCORD is an initiative funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
