Ayan Hassan Nuriye

Program Officer of the Mediation Support Unit of IGAD

Ms. Nuriye Ayan is currently the Program Officer of the Mediation Support Unit of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), with 9 years’ experience in peace, security and development. As a practioner, she has hands on experience in Preventive Diplomacy, Mediation Support and Peacebuilding.

Ms. Ayan Nuriye is a Kenyan-Somali who has spent most of her time working for different organizations in the Horn of Africa, including research organizations/think-tanks, NGOs and Intergovernmental organizations. Relating to her expertise, she has held various positions including serving as a humanitarian development expert, partnership & networking officer, a researcher for a Kenyan based Think-Tank as well as in policy making levels.  As a researcher, Ms. Nuriye provides insights into the state of peace & security in the Greater Horn of Africa (GHoA) Region.

Additionally, Ms. Nuriye is passionate about gender balance and inclusivity in peace processes and dedicates her efforts to promote gender sensitive peace processes. She advocates for increased inclusion, participation and representation of women and youth, (especially young women), to create a holistic approach that appreciates the contributions of all genders in peace & decision-making processes.
