Boikanyo Nkwatle

Programme Officer

Boikanyo Nkwatle is a Programme Officer attached to the Research Unit at ACCORD. He supports the unit by assisting with the implementation of the project “Contributing Towards Sustainable Coalitions at the Local Government Level in South Africa,” supported by the Embassy of Ireland. The project contributes to the national discourse on coalition governance by producing policy briefs, op-ed pieces, advocacy efforts, stakeholder engagement, seminars, workshops, and maintaining a coalition tracker that monitors executive changes in local governments. Boikanyo joined ACCORD in February 2024 as a Research Intern on the project and was later appointed Programme Officer. He holds a Master of Arts in Political Studies from North-West University, focusing on coalition governments in South African metropolitan municipalities. His interests lie at the intersection of democracy, elections, and democratisation, particularly in South Africa’s evolving political landscape following the 2024 general election and the rise of coalition governance.
