Celebrating African Women in Peace

SheisPeace_icon

#SheIsPeace is ACCORD’s annual campaign that celebrates the leadership and impact of African women, highlighting the often unsung contributions of African women in peacebuilding, mediation, and conflict resolution, driving change across peace, governance, justice, and community development.

Rooted in UNSCR 1325, the campaign was launched in 2022, and takes place each March during International Women’s Month. The campaign recognises women in all spheres of society, from grassroots to continental leaders, who are shaping more inclusive, peaceful, and resilient societies.

Through powerful storytelling, visual campaigns, and intergenerational dialogue, the initiative amplifies their voices, inspires collective action, and reaffirms ACCORD’s commitment to advancing the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda.

She Is Peace: Documenting Her Story

As we approach the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and the 25th anniversary of UN Resolution 1325 in 2025, African women’s peacebuilding efforts still lack adequate documentation. She Is Peace: Documenting Her Story campaign seeks to address this critical gap by advocating for greater documentation and research to amplify women’s roles in peace and security.

She Is Peace

2022 marks ACCORD’s 30th Anniversary of contributing to the field of peace and security on the continent. In celebrating this milestone, during women’s month, March 2022, ACCORD is running a social media campaign to draw attention to the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda. The campaign celebrates the collective efforts of African women peacebuilders and peacemakers who have been at the forefront of advancing peace and security. By highlighting their stories, the initiative seeks to honour women pioneers in the field, while drawing attention to how their leadership has inspired and paved the way for greater participation of women in peace processes across Africa.
