Gustavo de Carvalho

Senior Researcher on Russia-Africa ties at the African Governance and Diplomacy Programme, SAIIA

Gustavo de Carvalho is a Senior Researcher on Russia-Africa ties at the African Governance and Diplomacy Programme at SAIIA. He’s also a Research Fellow at the Institute for Global African Affairs at the University of Johannesburg.

Gustavo has over 15 years of experience supporting policy development, capacity building and research processes in Africa, focusing mainly on multilateralism and the relationship between African stakeholders and external partners. He has worked with various international organisations and think tanks, including the United Nations in Guinea-Bissau, the Institute for Security Studies (ISS), the African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (ACCORD), and Global Witness. Gustavo holds an MSc in African Studies from the University of Oxford and a bachelor’s degree in International Relations from the University of Brasilia.
