The workshop was held to develop the content for two training programmes, a Foundation Course for Civilians and the SADC Civilian Middle Management and Leadership Course. A course guideline for each of the two courses was developed prior to the workshop and the participants were able to expand on the course modules, course curriculum, and course specifications for facilitators. The participants were also able to make a clear demarcation between the two courses and align them to the African Peace Support Trainers Association (APSTA) and United Nations (UN) training requirements.

The workshop was attended by representatives from member states, the SADC PLANELM and Centres of Excellence – such as ACCORD and the International Peace Support Training Centre (IPSTC).

TfP/ACCORD participated as part of the African training network and SADC partner, and was able to make a positive and substantial contribution to the Workshop, especially in the area of Civilian Peace Support Operations training.
