Colonial Legacy Seminar

Seminar aimed at bringing together historians, political scientists and diplomats to discuss competing narratives with which historians address colonialism.

On 05-06 March 2018 the Coordinating Committee of the Network of Historians without Borders (HWB) in partnership with ACCORD and the University of Johannesburg hosted the first HWB Seminar in Africa. The seminar aimed to bring together local historians, political scientists and diplomats to discuss a competing narrative with the focus on how historians address the legacy of colonialism. The Seminar took place at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa.

The Coordinating Committee of the Network of Historians without Borders, of which ACCORD’s Founder and Executive Director, Advocate Vasu Gounden, is a member, was founded in 2015 by Dr Erkki Tuomioja, the Former Minister for Foreign Affairs of Finland, and established to bring together historians, political scientists and diplomats to contribute towards conflict prevention and resolution.

ACCORD was represented by Advocate Vasu Gounden, Executive Director and Founder of ACCORD, and Ms Stephanie de Freitas, Programme Officer: Operations.
