The RPTC planned a course that is of two weeks duration that targets Civilian, Military, Police and Corrections personnel at the senior and middle Management levels and drawn from the SADC Member States hoping to participate in future multidimensional Peace Support Operations Exercises and missions. The course aims at enhancing participants’ understanding of essential knowledge, skills and attitudes required for effective planning and coordination of mission support to integrated multidimensional Peace Support Operations (PSO’s) with the view to broaden the mission support capacities of the SADC Standby Force at the regional and Member State levels.
ACCORD/TfP’s involvement in such initiatives is in line with the Programme’s strategic goal of supporting efforts at strengthening the AUC’s capacity and capability to plan, manage and implement peace support operations on the continent through the development of the African Standby Force. This initiative also seeks to contribute to improved sustainable capacity for the conduct of peace operations on the continent through ensuring effective functioning of organizational systems in the African Union/Regional Economic Communities/Regional Mechanisms.
The Training for Peace Programme at ACCORD is an initiative funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
ACCORD/TfP was represented by Brig. Gen. James Machakaire, Coordinator, Peacekeeping Unit.
