Executive Director Meets Chef Cabinet

Dr Vasu Gounden discusses ACCORD's work and its new Global Peace Initiative with H.E. Maria Viotti.

On 26 February 2019 ACCORD’s Executive Director, Dr Vasu Gounden, met with H.E. Maria Viotti, Chef de Cabinet in the Executive Office of the United Nations Secretary General. The discussion included the work of ACCORD and its contribution to the mitigation of conflicts throughout Africa over the last 27 years. ACCORD’s new initiative Global Peace and its plans for convening 100 Inter-Generational Dialogues (IGDs) in developed and developing cities across the world was also discussed with H.E. Viotti.

Dr Gounden further shared information on the United Cities and Local Government (UCLG) World Congress that is scheduled to be held in eThekwini, South Africa in November 2019. It is here that ACCORD plans to host a Global Peace Conference. The meeting reflected on the possible attendance of the United Nations Secretary General to the Global Peace Conference whereby Global Peace aims to hand over the Global Peace Charter documenting the outcomes of all the IGDs.
