On 21 March 2017 ACCORDs Founder and Executive Director, Dr Vasu Gounden, was invited to speak at the African Union’s (AU’s) Peace and Security Public Meeting on Early Warning and the State of Peace and Security in Africa which was held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The meeting aimed to share information with the Peace and Security Council on the State of Peace and Security in Africa and its complex and changing nature, to provide an analysis of why Africa is experiencing a resurgence of conflict, the underlying causes, key drivers, manifestations and consequences. Finally, the meeting aimed to encourage the AU’s Peace and Security Council to brainstorm effective early warning and conflict prevention strategies to effectively prevent, and manage current conflicts, so as to create the space for Governments to address the root causes of conflicts.

The Peace and Security Council is chaired by the Government of South Africa for the month of March 2017.
