Canadian Evaluation Manager visits ACCORD

On the 10th of April Stuart Bloomfield, a Senior Evaluation Manager in the Office of the Inspector General in the Evaluation Department at the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade in Canada, visited ACCORD House.

Mr. Bloomfield has 14 years of experience in the international development field, has practiced law, and is an economist by training. He was in South Africa between the 7th and the 18th of April as part of an evaluation team to look at the planning and administrative processes in support of Canadian government operations and programming in South Africa.

The purpose of the evaluation was to assess how well the collective resources of the Government of Canada were being used to the mutual benefit of Canadians and South Africans. More specifically the evaluation aimed to assess the relevance, efficiency and effectiveness of the full suite of programmes and services (trade, immigration, development, security, cultural, and consular) administered by the Canadian High Commission in South Africa. To this end the evaluation team therefore conducted interviews with key Canadian, South African, and international partners and stakeholders.

In April 2007 ACCORD, in partnership with the Canadian High Commission in South Africa and the South African Department of Foreign Affairs, hosted a one day roundtable discussion on “The relationship between the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and Regional Organisations, in particular the Africa Union, in the maintenance of international peace and security”.
