Action for Strengthening Good Governance and Accountability

On 07, 08 September 2022 and 10 November 2022, ACCORD’s local women peacebuilders underwent feedback sessions following in-person capacity building workshops conducted earlier in the year by these women leaders across the nine provinces of South Africa.

The feedback sessions, facilitated by Ms Alison Lazarus, ACCORD’s expert consultant, aimed to guide the women on how civic education takes place at grassroots level. The sessions allowed for the time to discuss the characteristics of adult learners; communication skills for facilitators; appropriate methods of facilitation including but not limited to – lecture, brainstorming and panel discussion/debate; as well as the do’s and don’ts of facilitation. Participants were then able to assess their individual experiences with their colleagues and provide constructive feedback on the various methods and techniques used during their individual in-person training sessions.

Many participants were left feeling inspired to further their knowledge on adult education and facilitation, and to pass their newly gained knowledge onwards through their networks and best practice exchange. The main outcome of these sessions was to enhance the capacity of civil society actors, more specifically women actors to promote governance and accountability at a local level, and to encourage the continuation of grassroots civic education in their various communities. Furthermore, this activity ensures that the project objectives are expanded through a more in-depth application of skills – shifting from the theory and concepts to the practical experience.
