ACCORD’s Burundi Intervention conducted a capacity building training in Conflict Management skills from 29 September – 1 October 2009 in Bujumbura, Burundi for twenty-three staff members of the Information, Counseling, Legal Assistance (ICLA) Programme of the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) Burundi.

The training was officially opened by Mrs. Kate Norton, Country Director of NRC and Mr. Jerome Sachane, Deputy Director of ACCORD. Mr. Adelin Hatungimana, Senior Programme Officer, and Mr. Nyandwi Pamphile, Manager of the Legal Aid Clinic Project of the ACCORD BI facilitated the training.

This was the second conflict management training conducted by ACCORD involving NRC Burundi staff members. The first one was conducted in Bujumbura, Burundi in September 2005. The most recent training focused on conflict management and mediation skills to resolve land conflicts, with a view of strengthening the capacity of NRC staff members to resolve land disputes. A follow up Advanced Training in Mediation and Agreements is currently under discussion.
