ACCORD, in partnership with the Moshoeshoe Institute for Peace and Leadership (MIPL) and the Kingdom of Lesotho’s Ministry of Gender and Youth, Sport and Recreation conducted a conflict management training for Basotho youth in Maseru, Lesotho from 19-23 September 2022.

On behalf of ACCORD, Expert Trainer, Ms Joyce Pitso facilitated the training. The participants included youth representatives and development officers from each of the ten districts in Lesotho, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Gender and Youth, Sports and Recreation.

The training programmed incorporated an introduction to conflict management; focused on the different types of conflict; provided the space for participants to understand the process of identifying the different parties to the conflict; the root causes and the stages as well as the cycles of conflict.  In addition, discussions on approaches that can be taken to deal with conflict, such as styles of communication, problem solving and negotiation skills were also unpacked for better understanding.

Basotho youth were equipped with skills needed to deal with conflicts in their community, especially ahead of the Lesotho general elections in October 2022.  ACCORD continues to work closely with the MIPL, which is a likeminded institution based in Lesotho.
