Gounden joins Queen’s birthday celebrations

The Founder and Executive Director of ACCORD, Vasu Gounden, was invited by the British High Commission to South Africa, The Rt Honourable Paul Boateng, to attended a reception to mark Her Majesty The Queen’s Birthday. The reception was held on 1 June in Pretoria and coincided with Prime Minister Tony Blair’s visit to South Africa.

The Prime Minister and Mrs Blair were also present at the reception.

The UK Department for International Development (DFID) is one of ACCORD’s larger donors and currently funds ACCORD’s Angola Country Programme. Past programmes funded by DFID have included ACCORD’s Preventive Action Programme, and activities at ACCORD’s Burundi Country Office. Prime Minister Tony Blair has also sent a letter of support to ACCORD for its work on the Continent and the establishment of the Africa Peace Centre.

In 2006 H. E. High Commissioner Paul Boateng attended the ACCORD’s Africa Peace Award.
