Six years celebration of the UNSCR 2250 on youth, peace and security

Youth recongnised as key agents of change

The International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) and ACCORD hosted a peer learning workshop from 8 – 10 December 2021. The hybrid workshop and celebration, took place in Nairobi, Kenya with the ICGLR facilitating the participants in Nairobi and ACCORD hosting the virtual platform.  

Youth actors and decision makers were brought togther during peer-learning sessions to deliberate and share best practices on youth, peace and security (YPS), while cross-learning from the Women, Peace and Security agenda.  The workshop further provided the platform to advocate for the development of YPS National Action Plans for Member States of the ICGLR. 

ACCORD’s Executive Director, Dr Gounden, provided the welcoming remarks and Ms. Savannah Wilmot, ACCORD’s Programme Officer provided online moderation to the workshop sessions. Ms. Wilmot also presented the key insights gained during the Inter-Generational Dialogue series on the Continental Framework for Youth, Peace and Security that ACCORD hosted in collaboration with the African Union Youth for Peace Programme between July and December 2021. 

ACCORD continues to highlight and strategically recognise youth as a key constituency in building local and national capacities for peace.
