The African Union Commission’s Peace Support Operations Division (AUC PSOD) and ACCORD organized an Integrated Human Resources and African Standby Capacity (ASC) Database Management training for the Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) ASC Roster Focal Points from 15 to 19 August Nairobi, Kenya. Hosted by the EASF Civilian Planning Element (PLANELM) and conducted by the AUC PSOD, the United Nations Office to the African Union (UNOAU) and ACCORD, the training was in response to the recommendations from the 9th ASC Annual Coordination Meeting that took place in June 2022.

The Regional Economic Communities/Regional Mechanisms (RECs/RMs) recommended that the AUC conducts trainings on ASC database management; and on Competency Based Interviews (CBIs), which is the interviewing method used for ASC Roster recruitment. This training aimed to upskill the EASF Civilian PLANELM on the recently updated ASC tools, which include the ASC Database and the Selection Guidelines Manual, which are used for the recruitment of civilian experts on to the ASC Roster.  The Focal points were also taken through an Induction Course on rostering as well as a CBI Training, in order to help facilitate the integration of new staff have come on board at the EASF as a result of staff rotations. The AUC PSOD and ACCORD will continue conducting Integrated Human Resources and ASC Database Management training for each of the RECs/RMs throughout this year and in 2023.

The Training for Peace (TfP) Programme continues to support the development and operationalisation of the African Standby Force (ASF). More specifically the TfP Programme at ACCORD continues to focus on supporting the development of the civilian dimension of the ASF and remains committed to enhancing the ASC roster and the AU’s concerted efforts towards building a pool of ready-to-deploy civilian experts. The TfP Programme at ACCORD is an initiative funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
