ACCORD hosted a lessons sharing High Level Retreat intended to afford the CAR Delegation an opportunity to prepare for upcoming talks and negotiations.

On 09-14 July 2018 ACCORD hosted the above CAR Government officials, in Durban and Pretoria, South Africa, creating a consultative and experience sharing platform that leveraged on the experiences of ACCORD’s training and first-hand experience of working on issues of peace processes and negotiations. The interactive discussions covered the themes of mediation, negotiation, conflict management and strategy design.

Additional meetings took place in Pretoria on 13–14 July 2018 in order to give the delegation a better understanding of the experience and approaches used to advance national dialogue in South Africa leading up to the first democratic elections in 1994. ACCORD had the opportunity to engage with the CAR’s Government’s negotiating team in order to better understand the current socio-political and conflict environment present in their country and to better identify the needs present on the ground.

In 2013 ACCORD signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Central African Republic that included capacity building and training in conflict management, facilitation and technical support towards national reconciliation initiatives.
