Supporting creative educational processes.

On Thursday, 18 April 2024, ACCORD welcomed four students from the School of International Training (SIT) who are part of the Graduate Program for Global Masters Diplomacy and International Relations. Dr Imraan Buccus, the Academic Director of the SIT Programme in South Africa, and the academic support team accompanied the students.

The SIT Program is designed to prepare students to become future inter-culturally competent leaders, professionals, and citizens. The program aims to create a worldwide network of individuals and organizations committed to responsible global citizenship. SIT achieves its mission through field-based academic study abroad programs for undergraduates, accredited master’s degrees, and certificate programs for graduates and professionals.

ACCORD is proud to provide spaces for young researchers and political enthusiasts to thrive. The organization’s mission is to support their educational and creative processes while remaining open to the wealth of knowledge yet to be gained from young leaders.

ACCORD representatives Ms Karishma Rajoo, General Manager of Programmes, and Katharine Bebington, Researcher of the Research Department, addressed the group. Ms Rajoo shared information about the work that ACCORD carries out throughout the continent, under various strategic pillars, namely, Women, Peace, and Security (WPS); Youth, Peace, and Security (YPS); and Enhancing the Institutional Responses of the African Union (AU) and the Regional Economic Communities (RECs) to complex conflicts, among others. Ms Bebington shared ACCORD’s Mission, Vision, and the Strategic Pillars that guide all the interventions that ACCORD contributes towards encouraging and promoting constructive dispute resolution.

The students actively participated in the conversation, raising thought-provoking questions and making insightful comments that deepened the discussion. ACCORD and SIT have had a long-standing relationship, and it has been a mutually beneficial experience for all concerned. Several SIT students have been offered internships at ACCORD over the years of collaboration.
