ACCORD supports review of the implementation status of CAR’s Peace Agreement

CAR Peace Agreement

Bringing together the Guarantors and Facilitators of the Peace Agreement.

On 13 May 2020, ACCORD co-chaired with the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) in a one-day meeting to assess the implementation status of the Political Agreement for Peace and Reconciliation in the Central African Republic.

The meeting brought together the Guarantors and Facilitators of the Agreement who are representatives from CAR’s neighbouring States and international organisation, including the African Union. Their function was established in February 2019, when the Agreement was signed. The role of the Guarantors and Facilitators is to strengthen the process through their political, security, technical and financial support of the CAR government, among other functions.

The attendees at the meeting included the Representative of the Secretary-General ECCAS in CAR, Ambassador Nahayo and Ambassadors from Chad, Equatorial Guinea, Cameroon, Sudan and the First Counsellor of the Republic of the Congo.
