ACCORD’s Executive Director guest of speaker at opening of parliament

Vasu Gounden was invited by the Honourable Baleka Mbete to be one of her guests at the Opening of Parliament.

On 11 February 2016 the Founder and Executive Director of ACCORD, Vasu Gounden, was invited by the Speaker of the South African National Assembly, the Honourable Baleka Mbete, to be one of her guests at Parliament in Cape Town, South Africa, to attend the State of the Nation Address by South African President Mr Jacob Zuma.

The Honourable Speaker first visited ACCORD House in November 2013, and in August 2014 was the guest speaker at ACCORD’s Durban screening of the documentary 1994: The Bloody Miracle, during which the Honourable Speaker reflected on her own experiences during the period prior to the April 1994 elections. More recently the Honourable Speaker attended ACCORD’s Africa Peace Award ceremony in Durban, held on 21 November 2015, where the Africa Peace Award was presented to the African Union Commission.
