On 26 May 2025, ACCORD’s Founder and Executive Director, Dr Vasu Gounden, moderated a session at the Sustainable Infrastructure Development Symposium South Africa (SIDSSA). This event was hosted in Cape Town, South Africa, by H.E. President Ramaphosa from 26 -27 May 2025.
SIDSSA is a premier platform that brings together public and private sector leaders, policymakers, financiers, and infrastructure experts to explore strategies that drive infrastructure-led growth and sustainable development across South Africa and the continent. This year’s Symposium focused on unlocking infrastructure investment opportunities and advancing regional integration in alignment with the Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA).

The Executive Director moderated one of the G-20 Country Sessions hosted by Brazil, which focused on Building Resilient Communities: Investing in social infrastructure. Other parallel sessions included those hosted by the People’s Republic of China on Digital infrastructure: Driving Innovation and interconnectivity; the United Kingdom on Strengthening Financial Systems: Fiscal Policy that supports infrastructure investment; the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on Building a resilient and long-lasting economic recovery: Driving industrialisation for infrastructure development; and Indonesia on Sustainable Energy Transition.
The sessions aimed to foster strategic insights and share practical experiences on how hosting the G20 has influenced national infrastructure priorities, catalysed investment, and promoted policy coherence across sectors.
These dialogues form part of a broader mission to position infrastructure as a strategic asset for national development, leveraging global platforms such as the G20 for targeted collaboration and innovation.
