Changing Geopolitical Landscape and Implications for Africa

On 17 February 2026 the Founder and Executive Director of ACCORD, Dr Vasu Gounden, was invited to be a resource person at the Intelligence and Security Services in Africa’s (CISSA’s) Meeting of Directors-General / Heads of Service looking at Terrorism Financing and Transnational Organised Crimes, held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. 

The meeting will be attended by around 80 delegates, Chaired by H.E. Ambassador Jackson Victor Hamata, the Executive Secretary of CISSA.

Dr Gounden’s presentation will take place within the session looking at the Changing Geopolitical Landscape and Implications for Africa, with Dr Gounden focusing on Structural Drivers of Instability and Africa’s Security Trajectory. The second speaker in the Session will be H.E. Ambassador El-Ghassim Wane, the Former Chief of Staff/Chief Advisor to the African Union (AU) Commission Chairperson, former United Nations (UN) Assistant Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, and the former AU Commission Peace and Security Director.

CISSA was established in 2004 under the African Union framework to improve intelligence sharing and cooperation among African states. Over the years, it has become a vital platform for shaping continental strategies to combat terrorism, extremism, and organised crime, while supporting Africa’s long-term Security agenda.In August 2025 Dr Vasu Gounden made a virtual presentation at the 20th CISSA Conference, where his presentation focused on ‘Preventing Conflicts and Violent Wars in Africa: Challenges, Opportunities and Way Forward.
