On 23 March 2026 the Founder and Executive Director of ACCORD, Dr Vasu Gounden, hosted Mr Laurent Nduwimana and Mr Bucumi Ananias, at ACCORD House in Durban, South Africa. Mr Nduwimana and Mr Ananias, who are advisors to the Office of the Ombudsman of Burundi, paid a courtesy call to ACCORD on behalf of Her Excellence Aimee Kanyana, the Ombudsman of Burundi and Coordinator of the Central African Region of the African Association of Ombudsman and Mediators (AOMA).
Mr Nduwimana and Mr Ananias were in Durban to attend the African Ombudsman Research Centre’s (AORC’s) Relaunch and Training Programme jointly hosted by the South African Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) and the South African Public Protector’s Office.
ACCORD has been active in Burundi since 1995, and had an office in Bujumbura from 2003 – 2020.
The visit provided an opportunity for Mr Nduwimana and Mr Ananias to share with ACCORD the work that the Ombudsman does, to learn more about ACCORD’s recent work, and to explore synergies for future collaboration.
