On 24 June 2026, ACCORD’s Founder and Executive Director, Dr Vasu Gounden, met with the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General, Dr Amina J. Mohammed, in New York on the sidelines of UN Peacebuilding Week.
The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the importance of advancing African agency in peacebuilding and to explore ways of taking forward the outcomes of ACCORD’s recent High-Level Dialogue on Africa’s contribution to global peacebuilding.
Discussions also focused on the evolving peace and security landscape across the African continent, with Dr Gounden sharing insights from ACCORD’s recent work and ongoing initiatives to support conflict prevention, peacebuilding and sustainable peace across Africa.
The engagement reaffirmed the value of continued collaboration between ACCORD and the United Nations
